South Lake incorporated as a resort village on January 1, 1989.[2] In the 2021 Census of Population conducted by Statistics Canada, South Lake had a population of 226 living in 117 of its 313 total private dwellings, a change of 33.7% from its 2016 population of 169. With a land area of 4.95 km2 (1.91 sq mi), it had a population density of 45.7/km2 (118.2/sq mi) in 2021.[7] In the 2016 Census of Population conducted by Statistics Canada, the Resort Village of South Lake recorded a population of 169 living in 88 of its 321 total private dwellings, a 131.5% change from its 2011 population of 73.
