It held village status between 1913 and 2022. Lancer incorporated as a village on September 11, 1913.[1] It restructured on August 1, 2022, relinquishing its village status in favour of becoming a special service area under the jurisdiction of the Rural Municipality of Miry Creek No. 229.[2] In the 2021 Census of Population conducted by Statistics Canada, Lancer had a population of 58 living in 28 of its 33 total private dwellings, a change of -15.9% from its 2016 population of 69.
