At Natures Edge Acres, nature and new construction come together in a way rarely seen in SE Saskatchewan. Tucked behind a mature shelterbelt where deer and songbirds wander, this 2022 custom build delivers more than 3,000 sqft. of exceptional living space—a chance to own a true countryside original without the wait of building. Designed from the ground up with family and entertaining in mind, the home offers 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms, plus a surprise you’ll be talking about long after the showing: a 6th bedroom with a built-in slide right at the heart of the house. Whether it’s kids at play or simply hauling heavy bags downstairs, the slide turns everyday tasks into something fun. The main living area wows from the moment you walk in. Vaulted ceilings and wall-to-wall windows capture prairie light from sunrise to those legendary Saskatchewan sunsets. A dramatic floor-to-vault river rock fireplace anchors the space—beautiful to look at and practical too, with settings that keep the home warm even if the power goes out. The chef’s kitchen is ready for gatherings big or small, complete with a generous prep island, deep dovetailed pot drawers, and soft-close cabinetry. The sink frames tranquil eastern views while the west-facing picture window serves up nightly sunset shows. Built with modern efficiency in mind, the home features geothermal heating and cooling, weeping tile, excellent insulation, and spa-style ensuite showers. The electrical wiring has been thoughtfully planned—“overbuilt,” as the owners like to say—so you’re ready for anything from a future basement bar with toe-kick lighting to advanced tech upgrades. Outside, the unfinished garage is already set up for big projects with a welder plug, 30-amp camper hookup, and doors tall enough for a lifted truck. Whether you’re after a family retreat, a place to host unforgettable gatherings, or simply room to breathe, this acreage offers a rare combination of new-home comfort and Saskatchewan’s natural beauty.

Churchbridge Saskatchewan Information

Churchbridge is a town in the province of Saskatchewan, Canada, located at the junction of the Yellowhead Highway (Highway 16), and Highway 80. Churchbridge is a part of the Rural Municipality of Churchbridge No. 211, which is located within Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities (SARM) Division No. 1 and census division Number 5. Churchbridge began with the arrival of settlers from the Anglican Colonization Society, with director and missionary Reverend Robert Bridger. The village of Churchbridge was incorporated in 1903 with James Heasman as the overseer. He was solely responsible for the affairs of the village. There was no council, but M. Thorlakson and A.O. Berger, both hotel keepers, were trustees, which meant they made themselves responsible for the honesty and integrity of the overseer in his financial duties. In 1962, there were 260 people residing the village, and by 1964, the population had risen to 600. The village became a town in 1964. Churchbridge is located north of Big Cut Arm Creek and Deer Creek which drain into the Assiniboine River.[5] In the 2021 Canadian census conducted by Statistics Canada, Churchbridge had a population of 866 living in 392 of its 427 total private dwellings, a change of -3.3% from its 2016 population of 896. With a land area of 2.57 km2 (0.99 sq mi), it had a population density of 337.0/km2 (872.7/sq mi) in 2021.[2] Churchbridge is a community with an excellent location along Highway 16 for business. The Mosaic Potash mines to the south of employ many residents of Churchbridge and surrounding area, including nearby towns Esterhazy, Langenburg, and Bredenbury. Over the years Churchbridge has grown. The community has a kindergarten to grade 12 school, the Churchbridge Public School that is in the Good Spirit School Division No. 204,[10][11] a library,[12] a fire department,[13] a daycare,[14] and recreation facilities (including a new swimming pool). Sites of interest in the town include the Coin Monument erected to celebrate the 125th anniversary of Canadian Confederation,[15] Veteran’s Memorial Wall,[16] photo archives and the many heritage murals displayed throughout the community. These displays of art were created by local artists to help commemorate various events, as well as to honour former residents. Duck Mountain Provincial Park is located north on Highway 80; Asessippi Ski Area[17] and Lake of the Prairies is located just east on Highway 16. Churchbridge Campground is located south of the junction of Highway 16 and 80. The campground offers 33 sites – 29 electrified, pull through sites, grass covered sites for tents, sewer dump, washroom and shower facility. Across the road is a picnic area, swimming pool, playground and ball diamonds. Located within 15 km (9.3 mi) is the Langenburg Recreation Site. The Saltcoats Game Preserve is within 19 km (12 mi).[18] Churchbridge Airport supplies limited air service to this Saskatchewan town. The main mode of transportation would be via Saskatchewan Highway 16, the Yellowhead Route, and to a lesser extent via the north/south secondary highway, Saskatchewan Highway 80. As of the early 1900s, Churchbridge was a part of the Minnedosa, Saskatoon, Edmonton section of the Canadian Pacific Railway.[19] A local history and family biography book written for the province’s 75th anniversary by Ruth Swanson and published by the Churchbridge History Committee and is entitled: The first hundred years: around Churchbridge, 1880-1980.[20] The Four-Town Journal newspaper covers Churchbridge and its surrounding area. The Company was established by Bill Johnston in 1980 and was purchased by Ryan Stanko in 2019. Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Churchbridge,_Saskatchewan

Understanding Topsoil Depth in Alberta: Insights from AAFC SLC Version 3.2 Data

Topsoil depth is a critical factor for agricultural productivity, influencing water retention, nutrient availability, and root growth. The provided map of Alberta illustrates the topsoil depth in inches, highlighting significant regional variations. This analysis is based on data from the Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) Soil Landscapes of Canada (SLC) Version 3.2.

Key Observations

The topsoil depth in Western Alberta and the Rockies is generally shallow, ranging from 0 to 6 inches. This is due to the rugged terrain and erosional processes associated with mountainous regions. The shallow topsoil in these areas supports forests and natural vegetation rather than extensive agriculture.

Central Alberta, including areas around Edmonton and Red Deer, exhibits moderate to deep topsoil depths, generally between 8 to 14 inches. These depths are conducive to productive agriculture, supporting a variety of crops. The deeper topsoil in central regions contributes to higher agricultural yields and sustainable farming practices.

In Southern and Eastern Alberta, regions such as Calgary and areas towards the Saskatchewan border show variable topsoil depths ranging from 6 to 10 inches. While suitable for agriculture, these areas may require careful soil management to maintain productivity. Areas with shallower topsoil are more drought-resistant and may need irrigation and soil conservation practices.

Regional Analysis

The Rocky Mountain Influence is evident in the shallow topsoil of the Rocky Mountain foothills, resulting from the rocky and rugged terrain, limiting soil accumulation. These areas are more suited to forest growth and natural vegetation rather than intensive agriculture.

In contrast, the Prairie Conditions in central Alberta benefit from moderate to deep topsoil, which is ideal for crop production and supports Alberta’s agricultural economy. Maintaining topsoil depth through conservation practices is essential for sustaining long-term agrarian productivity in these areas.

Implications for Agriculture

Understanding topsoil depth is crucial for effective soil management practices, including crop selection, irrigation, and fertilization. Farmers can use this data to optimize their farming practices, choosing crops suited to the available topsoil depth and implementing appropriate soil conservation measures. Deeper topsoil improves water retention and nutrient availability, which is essential for healthy crop growth and high yields.

Conclusion

The topsoil depth map of Alberta reveals significant regional variations influenced by geographical features such as the Rocky Mountains and the fertile plains of central Alberta. Understanding these variations is crucial for optimizing agricultural practices and ensuring sustainable farming. By leveraging this data, farmers can improve crop yields, manage soil health, and enhance overall agrarian productivity in Alberta.
